Blue Ribbon Day

On June 4, 2011, I was excited to bring home a first place ribbon in professional oil painting from the Route 66 Art Show and Sale sponsored by Sapulpa Arts.  This Oklahoma show brings attention to the history and beauty of our state.  The painting is titled "Parrot Tulip" and is 8" x 10".

Gardening

It is hot in Oklahoma, so I try to go outside early in the day.  Some of our current blossoms are showing such lovely colors.

Trip to Florida

Ken had a scientific meeting in Ft. Lauderdale, and we took time to drive down to Miami and see where we used to live, eat at our favorite restaurant, and walk along the beach.  Wonderful.

Kansas City Art

We traveled to see the senior thesis show of Yulie Urano, fiber artist who just graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute.  She also dates our son, Ben.  Her work is fabulous and exciting and she was awarded the Windgate Fellowship which allows her to study abroad this summer.  Congratulations, Yulie!

Sidewalk Cafe

We visited Fort Lauderdale in May and if you look closely in the reflection, you will see my husband walking up the street.  This painting is showing at The Pearl Art Gallery in Tulsa.  Sold.

Water Street Art Gallery

In June 2010 the Artists of Water Street Art Gallery voted to close our space.  What a fun run we had!

I want to say fondly that the experience of starting a business, hosting wonderful artists, and working closely with all the anchor artists was one of the finest of my life.  Thank you and my best to all involved.

Summertime

These girls on the fishing dock in the sun are focused on their next catch, while I am focused on the way their hats and swimsuits caught the light and shadow.

Karen Renfrow Art

Clouds Over the Cimarron

Lilies for Jeanette

It's Christmas night 2009 and I am enjoying being snowed in at home with my family. Out on our lawn is one tree decorated with red and white lights in memory of my beautiful sister-in-law. This bouquet of lilies is also dedicated to her and our special memories of times spent together.

Blue Plums

Small works are an exercise for many artists to work alla prima with fresh and immediate results. I did these blue plums in such a mood. They remind me of summers at my grandmother's.  Sold!

Holiday Opening Night

Our Holiday Miniature Invitational opened last night at Water Street Art Gallery. Had a wonderful Champagne and Chocolate reception.

Garden Shop

Three of my paintings are accepted for the 2009 December Show at The Pearl Gallery in Tulsa. We will be watching for snowflakes, but remembering the sunshine from herb festivals like this one held in Sand Springs every year.

September 2009

End of summer - beginning of fall. My favorite time of year! Painting, teaching, traveling a bit...working a lot. I'm at Water Street Art Gallery today. If you haven't been here yet, please come to visit soon.

I will be the featured speaker at the artists' meeting for Alpha Rho Tau on Monday evening, August 17, 2009. The title of my talk is "My Journey to Impressionism" and will begin at 6:30 in the meeting room at Hardesty Library at 93rd andMemorial in Tulsa. Please join me for an evening looking back on my journey so far and some hints for what lies ahead!

Too Old to Care

Girlfriend reunions are a once-a-year highlight.  Last time we visited Mona in beautiful Cheyenne, WY.  We took a road trip to the  Chugwater Chili Festival.  These women were enjoying the rock and roll band and I enjoyed watching them dance!  We all had fun in the sun.

Cimarron River

The pink sky over the prairie just appeals to me every time I look at it.

Prairie Tradition

When we were young and traveling across Kansas to go home for Christmas, decorating this cedar tree was an important stop along the way.  The painting was displayed at the Philbrook Festival of Trees 2008 and it sold last week.  I wish the new owners "Happy Holidays".

Girlfriends

My two sisters came for a visit last weekend - a rare and fantastic event!  We remembered our mom by walking along the river in her honor.  This painting is from a small black and white snapshot of her with her two best friends in high school at Sterling, Kansas.  Celebrate the women in your life!
